This week we focused more on training perspectives so mentality and making our own lists and days and what goes into each list. So here’s my part of mentality in what Hawken Athletes need to improve on if the school wants to improve on its athletics.

  1. Prioritizing sports:
  • Lack of numbers for some sports
  • Be committed to coming to practice, don’t schedule an appointment for when you know you have it, so you can miss practice. This is important because it puts everyone on the same page about how important the sport is to them, which will overall increase how well the team does over a season.
  • Not enough being done to recruit for certain sports
  • Straight up lack of expirience with serious training from middle school
    • Starting from the younger kids and making the port more than just a random after-school activity
    • Developing those athletes so they come to the Upper School with that mindset already
  • Dedication from athletes:
    • Showing up to every practice
      • Not scheduling appointments during practice
    • On time, giving 100%- it’s important to be on time because it shows your commitment to the team and it lets you properly warm up and prepare for practice. the more people who show up on time the better example it’ll set for the whole team. Practice won’t be as lack luster if everyone is prepared before it starts.
    • Working outside the season 2-3x a week still- off season work is important for team growth, wether its team off season work or individual both will help reach new heights and goals for your team. If every single person got more skilled and stronger each season then the team will improve each season. If your offseason work involves teammates then your chemistry and teamwork will improve and so will your win total.
    • Doing everything both for yourself and your team
